Former World Competitive Bartender Finds New Home in Louisville Bar
Peruse YouTube, and you may just come across a clip of Levi Donaldson competing in competitive flair bartending. He was on the world circuit in his 20’s, and can tell you about many unique and interesting experiences he’s had. His favorite trip-Monte Carlo. Levi says he was able to explore the decadent town on a helicopter ride, and he did well in that competition, placing sixth in the world.
Now Levi brings back his experience to Louisville as Assistant Manager and head bartender of Down One Bourbon Bar. Levi grew up in Southern Indiana. After his time in competitive bartending, Levi moved back to New Albany and opening My Bar in 2007. In 2010, he became a bar consultant, traveling acros the country. His new project, brings him to the center of Whiskey Row, with Down One Bourbon Bar.
Levi has developed handcrafted cocktails that are fun. “We’re taking the pretention out of some classic cocktails and putting our own spin on them.” You’ll find both classics and some new ideas on the drink menu. Levi’s favorite is the Bee’s Knees, a gin cocktail.
“I learned a lot traveling the world and competing,” now Levi is putting all his knowledge to work as he opens this new bar with General Manager Christian Hattemer.
